Sporting rifle with 27,5″ rebrowned octagonal barrel carrying four leaf rear sight and under-rib. Chequered straight-hand stock with early repair to heel of butt. Replacement ramrod. Steel buttplate. “J.S.F. Botha Cape Town” to top of barrel & “J.S.F.Botha” to engraved lockplate. German silver cap to fore-end. British proofs to barrel. Classic profile big bore percussion rifle. The Botha family were the best known of the Cape Gunsmiths, three generations of the family trading as gunsmiths/dealers in Cape Town from the late 1700’s through to 1902. Good condition.
