100-B01-025 John Hayton S/S Percussion Pistol With Detachable Stock

A scarce 28-bore & 54-bore percussion combination double-barelled Cape Pistol serial no. 8988, circa 1855, with 8 1/2″ (215,90mm). Damascus barrels, the right 28-bore smooth, the left hand barrel rifled for 54-bore belted ball, the top-rib signed “JOHN HAYTON, Grahamstown”. Elevated dove-tailed blade fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight with three platinum lined folding “Africa” leaves. Shell and border engraving to breech, platinum plugs, border and scroll engraved top-tang and scroll engraved bar-action locks signed “J. HAYTON”. Scroll engraved slab-sided hammers, walnut three-quarter stock with fully chequered semi-saw pistol-grip butt. Captive ramrod with iron swivel stirrup.
