089-D02-352 .450 adams Webley NO.5 New Model Army Express 5 1/2″ Revolver Pre-1898

Webley’s last large gate loading revolver, the No 5 was in direct competition to Colt’s Double Action Model of 1889. Advertised as specially adapted for the Colonies and as adopted by the Transvaal Goverment (ZAR), the No.5 was used by the ZAR, Free State and Cape Colony. This one is marked R.M.P over 1 (unit?) and has a WW II Union Defence Force Arrow in U. Early in the WW II the UDF purchased virtually every handgun they could (including .25acp). The No. 5 was variously marked 450 or 455 or 476 or 45 Long. Some were marked with all 3 or 4 and some had no calibre marking, but mostly they would chamber all these rounds. This specimen was supplied by V&R Blakemore London, a supplier to the British Colonies of items ranging from firearms to uniform buttons. It has no calibre marking and is in very good condition, but for a mis-matched cylinder with worn finish.
